What is GDPR and why is it important?
- The General Data Protection Regulation, or GDPR, is a Regulation set by the European Parliament and the Council regarding the protection and privacy of personal data within the European Union.
- This Regulation sets out the processing of personal data including, among other, its collection, storage, transfer or use. The concept of “personal data” refers to any information related to an identified or identifiable individual.
- Companies outside the EU should also comply with this Regulation if they intend to process personal data of EU citizens, whether the organisation has a physical presence in the EU or not.
